Scaling Startups: How a Podcast Feature Prompted Cairnline Ventures

Updated: Aug 25, 2025

I was recently featured on a podcast, Horizons of Leadership, during Vancouver's websummit. It was partly due to this podcast, on my last day as a Vice President at GetFresh Ventures, where I decided it was time for me to begin my own firm.

This podcast was an opportunity to concentrate some of my learnings over the years into a conversational format for others to digest. A bit more on how this culminated into this firm.

Cairnline Ventures was founded on the belief that growth strategy starts with founder intent, not investor hype. Most consultants and VCs obsess over market size or pitch polish. Instead, we focus first on what the founder actually wants to build. Perhaps it's a $5M lifestyle exit, $20M retirement outcome, or a shot at a unicorn. We then reverse-engineer the commercialization path to make that outcome possible.

Three pillars shape Cairnline’s positioning:

  1. Clarity before capital - Begin with the founder’s goals and customer truth, not investor templates.

  2. Repeatable revenue as proof - Shift early traction into durable, recurring revenue engines that unlock scale.

  3. Embedded mentorship - Act not as an outsider but as a venture catalyst, combining advisory precision with hands-on guidance so founders avoid “building in a bubble.”

Cairnline Ventures is the throughline from Signal-to-Scale: a structured, founder-first approach that aligns exit outcomes, customer reality, and growth systems.
